Street trading

Street trading is selling or offering to sell any item in the street. This includes any road, path, beach, or other area to which the public have free access to.

All streets in Swansea need to have street trading consent to trade. There are two designated trading areas in Swansea, the city centre inner zone and the outer zone which covers all public and private land within the local authority area outside the city centre.

Where can you trade in the city centre inner zone?

The city centre inner zone has fixed pitches designated by the City Centre Management. There are currently 11 designated pitches and you are able to work from a pitch with consent.

Where can you trade in the outer zone (all other areas outside the city centre)?

The outer zone includes all public and private land outside the city centre. There are no designated pitches in the outer zone and you are able to work either as a mobile trader or from a pitch with consent.

Trading in the outer zone

The outer zone is all public and private land outside the city centre.

Food registration for street traders

If you are selling food, you need to register your mobile vehicle with the local authority in whose area the vehicle is stored when not in use.

Street trading at fetes, carnivals and events

All traders who wish to trade at any fete, carnival or event which is free to the public to attend then they will be required to apply for a street trading consent to trade.

Cars being sold by the side of the road

Selling a car in the street in Swansea is classed as street trading and you must have consent.
