Automatic fire suppression (sprinklers)
Building regulations in Wales call for an automatic fire suppression system (commonly known as a fire sprinkler system) to be installed in new and converted homes.
These regulations cover all homes and flats newly constructed or formed by a material change of use since 1 January 2016. This includes:
- new houses and flats
- care homes
- rooms for residential purposes (other than in a hotel, hospital, prison or short stay leisure hostel)
- registered group homes and sheltered housing / independent living complexes
The design and installation of the system must be carried out by a competent person. A compliance certificate should be given by the competent installer.
