The Swansea Urgent Out-of-Hours Social Worker is your urgent contact for children and families, adults, youth justice and the out-of-hours Approved Mental Health Professional Service (AMHP).

Who does the Urgent Out-of-Hours Social Worker help?

The Urgent Out-of-Hours Social Worker can deal with:

  • Child protection enquiries
  • Urgent family breakdown situations
  • Approved Mental Health Professional Duties (AMHP)
  • Appropriate Adult Duties for children and young people in custody where an adult cannot be found to fulfil this role
  • Urgent changes to home care for adults
  • Requests for placements for disabled and older people
  • Adult Safeguarding enquiries
  • Urgent advice needed for social work matters.

They cannot address non-urgent matters that can wait until working hours - such information or messages should be passed to Social Services staff during the day. Please contact them directly at their earliest convenience.

The Urgent Out-of-Hours Social Worker is unable to start a package of support for adults outside working hours but can make a referral to Social Services during opening hours if this is urgent.

How do I get help?

You can contact Social Services as usual during the daytime working hours, which are 9.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9.00am - 4.30pm on Friday - see Contact Social Services.

The Out-of-Hours Social Worker is available for urgent matters outside of these times.

There are a limited number of social workers available to answer your call:

  • two social workers are available from 5.00pm to 1.00am at weekends and bank holidays.
  • and one social worker and AMHP are available from the hours of 1.00am to 8.30am. This line is for urgent enquiries only.
