OFGEM energy rebate scam

An energy rebate scam is doing the rounds where fraudsters are sending fake emails pretending to be from OFGEM (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets).

The fake emails, which look official, ask people for their bank account details by June 1 to receive a £200 payment that will help towards the costs of their energy bills.

Please note that the link included in these fake emails leads to websites designed to steal personal and financial details.

OFGEM banks would never ask for these details over text or email.

If you need to check if it's a genuine message, please contact OFGEM directly, but don't use any contact details on the fake email you receive. You can find their correct contact details here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/about-us/contact-us
