Parish registers at West Glamorgan Archives

Are you looking to find where your ancestors might have been baptised, married or buried? Here is a list of all the parish registers we hold.

Parish Registers 1
At West Glamorgan Archive Service we hold a good set of parish registers for the area we serve. Because these are popular record types, we have made facsimile copies for you to use in the searchroom, to save the originals. This is where you can see them.

For the ancient parishes, we also hold facsimile copies of the bishops' transcripts on microfilm. These were a duplicate copy of the parish registers which were sent regularly to the diocesan headquarters. They often include earlier entries than the surviving parish registers, but they are often incomplete. The originals are at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.

Parish Registers 2
Here is a map of the ancient parishes in our area. (PDF) [603KB]

Our area is split between two dioceses: the western part, containing Swansea, Gower and the Swansea Valley, is in the diocese of Swansea and Brecon. We hold the original records for the parishes in this area. The eastern part, containing Neath and Port Talbot, is in the diocese of Llandaff, and although we have facsimile copies, the original registers are at Glamorgan Archives in Cardiff.
