A view across the town

A panorama of Swansea from Picton Terrace (picture ref. P/PR/94ii/3/4)

On a slightly hazy day in summer, somewhere around 1910, a photographer took his camera up to Picton Terrace on the slopes of North Hill and found a good vantage point on the curve of the road to take a shot across the town.

Some of the buildings here are instantly recognisable, such as the old library building on the left, but much has changed. Holy Trinity church on the right was destroyed in the Blitz in 1941, while the landscape of docks, railways and warehouses in the distance has given way to today's new buildings

Over the days that followed, he took a stunning series of photographs of the town as it was a few years before the First World War. We have put this exhibition together to showcase some of the photographs.
