School uniform grant

Funded by Welsh Government to assist families on low incomes.

The School Uniform Grant funding is available to pupils who are eligible for free school meals or are looked after entering:

  • Reception class of maintained primary schools in September 2018.
  • Year 7 of maintained secondary schools in September 2018.
  • Pupils in special schools, special needs resource bases and pupil referral units who are aged 4 or aged 11 in September 2018.

To note: Asylum seeker pupils entering reception and year 7 in the 2018/2019 school year are entitled under this funding if they fulfil the eligibility criteria.

For those who are eligible, you will receive a voucher in the post to the value of £125, which can be spent in any of the participating suppliers listed on the back of the voucher. The voucher can be used to purchase:

  • School uniform
  • Sports kit
  • Uniform for enrichment activities such as scouts, guides, martial arts etc.
  • Equipment such as school bags, stationery
  • Specialist equipment where new curriculum activities begin such as design and technology
  • Equipment for out of school hours trips, such as outdoor learning eg. waterproofs.

We are hoping to start issuing vouchers by the end of July 2018 for year 7 and beginning of August for reception. We will receive an updated list from the Benefits Team every fortnight, so vouchers will continue to be sent out after these dates. The voucher will be valid until 31 December 2018.
