No pupil has to go without period products

Schools in Swansea have been provided with free period products so that no pupil should go without.

Thanks to Welsh Government funding, all the city's secondary schools have been given five packs of plastic-free pads for each girl to take home every school term since September, with more supplies kept in school and for primary schools.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Supporting Communities and Champion for Women, Louise Gibbard, said: "The focus on universal provision in this grant is really important as period poverty often carries a double stigma - there is sadly often still a lot of embarrassment around periods and also shame at being short of money.

"Having to ask a teacher for something is very difficult for many young people but by giving all pupils supplies without them having to ask helps to normalise periods and free products.

"Hopefully it's another way we are helping families in Swansea with the cost of living crisis."

Free period products are also available at all Swansea's libraries, our cultural venues like the Glynn Vivian and Swansea Museum, through youth services, food banks and via many other services and voluntary groups.
