Youngsters are now enjoying new play areas after they were officially opened at Morriston, Melin Mynach and Loughor Foreshore

They bring to more than 30 the number of play areas in the city that have had makeovers with more to come in the coming months.

Features at Melin Mynach, which was officially opened on March 15 include a 3-m zipwire, clambering tunnels as well as climbing frames, swings and a trampoline.

Loughor Foreshore's new play area also includes a zipwire, climbing frames and a slide while Morriston's play area comes with a pyramid net climber, swings, a roundabout and a zipwire.

Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, said the council is committed to upgrading every council-owned play area in the city.

He said: "It's fantastic to see how much children enjoy the opportunity to get out and enjoy fresh air and exercise in these brilliant play areas.

"The new generation of play areas are springing up right across Swansea and it's anticipated that upgrades will be completed in other places like Blackpill and Bracelet Bay in good time for April's Easter holidays."

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Business Improvement and Performance, said: "Our parks remained open throughout the pandemic and it was noticeable just how popular and important play areas were for children to get out of the house, enjoy exercise and a breath of fresh air safely.

"We've been inspired by that to dip into the council's £25m Economic Recovery Fund to help create the play areas alongside Welsh Government grants and great support from ward members dipping into their budgets."

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, added: "The new play area and equipment we're putting in will be a brilliant boost for children looking forward to great free days out."
