War memorials at West Glamorgan Archives

Making the rolls of honour we hold available online to commemorate the end of the First World War.

War Memorials

Rolls of honour right
At the Archives we have several rolls of honour and memorials recording the names of men and women from the local community who took part in the First World War. They have come from churches, organisations, schools and businesses in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. Some are colourful and beautifully-drawn; others are brass plaques or printed posters, and others are notebooks, published booklets and photographs.

While you can go and visit the village or town memorial, there is the danger that the ones we hold could be overlooked and the information lost.

We decided to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War by digitising the memorials we hold and indexing the names, to make a combined digital memorial.

There is a list of names of the local men and women who are commemorated on these memorials, with links to images of the relevant memorial and more information about them. The list does not cover every memorial in the area, nor does it cover every town or village, but it covers all the memorials that we hold here in the Archives.

We welcome further donations of similar material.
