Frequently asked questions about the proposed city centre community hub, which would be the new home for our main library and a host of other community services.
When will Y Storfa open?
The council's project team and contractors are making significant progress on developing Y Storfa. An opening schedule will be announced in due course.
When will the Civic Centre close?
Only when Y Storfa is open - and successfully up and running.
How will the public be kept up to date on the moving of council services from the Civic Centre to y Storfa?
Through the local media, the weekly public e-newsletter and through social media. There are also the Y Storfa web pages.
How will staff and the public be affected in the transition phase, as the archive service makes the transition from the Civic Centre to Y Storfa?
We aim to make the transition as smooth as possible for all, with regular updates on progress. Although we understand that some people enjoy the Civic Centre, we hope that many will enjoy Y Storfa's proximity to the multitude of neighbouring city centre services.
How will staff and public be able to travel to Y Storfa?
It's at the heart of the city centre and is close to bus routes, car parks and cycle routes.
Where will staff and public be able to park when working at Y Storfa?
There are hundreds of car parking spaces in the city centre, operated by the council and others: City centre car parks.
Why is this big change being made?
The council is driving a £1bn regeneration of Swansea. As part of this it wants to give city centre businesses more footfall - and sees the Civic Centre site as an exciting opportunity for redevelopment. Creating Y Storfa in the former city centre BHS store will attract thousands of people - staff and public - every week, boosting opportunities for the private sector. Redeveloping the Civic Centre site, bringing a range of new uses, will help offer people from Swansea and elsewhere more chances to enjoy the seafront.
