Clip Cymru is a free online resource that provides access to the Wales Broadcast Archive - a unique, historical collection of audio-visual records held at The National Library of Wales.  The project aims to have more than 400,000 items of radio and television material from Wales dating back to the 1930s, in addition to hundreds of films from the Screen and Sound Archive, which dates back to 1898.  New material is frequently added to the collection.

Bringing together extensive broadcast material from the collections of BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales and S4C, the Broadcast Archive records close to a century of Welsh life in unparalleled diversity, offering a unique insight into the histories and cultures of Wales. By preserving, cataloguing, and digitising this material and presenting them on a fully searchable website, this remarkable collection will be accessible to all.

From the history of the Second World War to the Aberfan disaster; from the campaign for Devolution to the Miners' strike; from iconic sporting successes to the entertainment of the Noson Lawen, Clip Cymru presents a historical snapshot of 20th century Wales and beyond.

The project provides public access to this vast collection via Clip Corners set up throughout Wales, and West Glamorgan Archive Service is pleased to be one of the first Clip Corners to open in Wales and provide public access to this vast collection of films and radio broadcasts.

How to access the collection.

The Broadcast Archive can be accessed at any time during our opening hours.  You can pre-book a slot to use the Broadcast Archive if you would like, via email or phone. Our details can be found on our Contact West Glamorgan Archives webpage.  (It is recommended to book an hour's slot as we anticipate high demand for this service.)

The site is free to use and search, but to watch or listen to any of the clips you will need to either have a National Library of Wales (NLW) reader's ticket, or have completed an online registration on the NLW website to get your reader's ticket number.  You can do this in advance at home, on the National Library of Wales Reader's Ticket page, or here at the Clip Corner.

You can search the Clip Cymru site before you visit to see what is currently available.

You should bring your own headphones to use (no Bluetooth headphones, wired sets only).

For more information on the collection, please visit the National Library of Wales' webpage on the Broadcast Archive.
