St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Swansea

Roll of Honour

St Andrew's Presbyterian Church was established in 1860 by Swansea-based Scottish families. The church was built on St Helen's Road, a prominent building with twin towers at what was then the western edge of the town of Swansea. It became a United Reformed Church in 1970 and closed in 1992. The building still stands, and has recently become Swansea Mosque and Islamic Community Centre.

The roll of honour, signed by G. Terrill, is drawn in coloured ink and watercolour on a piece of card that measures 55 x 80 cm. It is a colourful and pleasing design, with the names picked out in red and black ink in a Gothic hand, and a border of stylised dolphins and foliage, set with the emblems of the allies at the beginning of the war. The contemporary coat of arms of Swansea County Borough Council are at the bottom.

It is signed by G. Terrill and dated 1915, so it may not be a complete list. The 49 names are those of men from the congregation who fought in the war, and the names of the three who later died have been outlined and gone over in black ink.
