Clyne Common and Mansel Green

This is a large area of common land (286 hectares) crossed by the B4436, with the development of West Cross and Mayals on the eastern boundary of Clyne Common and the village of Murton abutting Mansel Green to the south west.

The common is a mosaic of wet and dry heathland bordered by predominantly native woodland Clyne Golf Course occupies the north eastern part of the common and Clyne Farm is in the top north east corner, also adjacent to Clyne Valley Country Park. Bishopston stream runs along the western edge of the common.

The common and the rights of way that cross it link West Cross and Mayals with Murton, Blackhills and Clyne Valley. Beware of low flying golf balls!

Highlights

Lookout for heathland birds such as skylark, linnet and snipe. There are also several species of dragonfly and butterfly present.

Footpaths

There are several footpaths crossing the site. The site is open-access land although it is advised that walkers use the paths available to avoid collisions with golf balls in the golf course area of the common.

There is no on-site parking.

Buses

There are several bus stops on the B4436 between West Cross and Murton, adjacent to Clyne Common.

Bridleways

There are several bridlepaths crossing the common.
