Don't miss out on £150 Cost of Living Payment

More than 66,000 households in Swansea have now received a £150 Cost of Living Payment but it is estimated at least 10,000 are currently missing out as they are yet to register.

The Welsh Government-funded grant is being administered by local authorities across Wales.

Swansea Council has worked to get the money into people's bank accounts as quickly as possible and more than £10m has been paid out so far.

Most eligible households in Swansea who pay their council tax by direct debit and live in a Band A to D property were paid automatically.

Around 8,000 households who have been previously been paid a Winter Fuel Grant by Swansea Council should have also received the payment.

Other householders living in Band A to D properties or those living in any band property who are in receipt of the means tested Council Tax Reduction, need to register for the grant with a closing date of Friday 30 September 2022.

Many have done so but those who have not are being urged to check their eligibility and register by visiting: swansea.gov.uk/costoflivingpayment

Those without access to a computer or relative or friend to help, can book an appointment by phoning  01792 636311 between 10am and 3pm Monday through to Friday.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Alyson Pugh, said: "Our finance teams have worked very hard to get these grants to people as soon as we could as we know many are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

"The Welsh Government has made this money available to all qualifying households in Wales and I would urge those who have yet to register to check their eligibility and if they qualify, to register.

"We estimate that there are at least 10,000 households in Swansea who have yet to do so and I would hate to see them miss out on this support that they are entitled to.

"Registering online is the quickest and simplest way to access the grant but we are able to help those without access to the internet or computer.

"Once registered we will work to get the grant to people as quickly as possible."
