Groups can apply now for period poverty funding
Funding that enabled charities and organisations working to combat period poverty support almost 6,000 women and girls in Swansea last year is available again.
During 2021/22 Swansea Council awarded more than £32,000 to 27 groups in the city.
These included foodbanks, Swansea YMCA, Swansea Women's Aid, the African Community Centre, STOPP (Swansea Takes on Period Poverty), The Environment Centre, NAS Autistic Society, Sunflower Lounge, GROW Cymru, Swansea Youth Service and Swansea Council Libraries.
More than 75% of the funding was used to purchase eco-friendly products which are plastic free and/or reusable.
Thanks to Welsh Government funding the support is available again and organisations can now apply.
Cabinet Member for Well-Being, Alyson Pugh, said: "Yet again we are extremely grateful to our colleagues in Welsh Government for their funding for a scheme that is supporting so many people in Swansea.
"I would urge charitable or voluntary organisations and groups who work in this field to apply for this funding as there is no doubt with the cost of living crisis the number of women and girls needing this support will only increase.
"There are some incredible organisations working with women and girls in Swansea and the council will continue to support them in any way we can."
