Free events to help families save money

Organised by Swansea Council, the free events include Spooks in the City in Castle Square and the annual fireworks display along Swansea Bay.

Starting at 11am on Saturday October 29, Spooks in the City will include family entertainment, games, dance performances, music, theatrical make-up, a pumpkin hunt, roaming Halloween characters and gory props for photo opportunities.

The event will finish with a pumpkin parade at 3pm.

Also taking place on the same day in Swansea Market is an event that will include spooky shows, haunted Halloween portraits, face painting, cookie decorating and opportunities to make your own Halloween costume.

The free fireworks fun will be kicking-off at 6pm on Saturday November 5 with some pre-show entertainment including a fire show, glow entertainers and walkabout acts at various locations along the prom.

Then, at 7pm, the free fireworks display will be offshore on a barge in the sea for the very first time, illuminating the waters of the bay for thousands to enjoy from the prom and the beach.

Parking and travel information for that event will soon be made available.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: "Free events of this kind are more important than ever this year, with so many families and residents worried about how they're going to make ends meet because of the cost of living crisis.

"So as a council, we're here for Swansea and will continue to do all we can to support local people - whether that's through the provision of free, high-quality events for local people to enjoy or ensuring those eligible for financial support get payments they're entitled to in their bank accounts as soon as possible.

"The Halloween and fireworks events are just a few of so many free or low-cost things to do in Swansea though, with free exhibitions and other activities also available at our cultural venues like the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea Museum and Dylan Thomas Centre."

The website also includes tips on saving energy, information on eligibility and application forms for payments, and lists of Swansea's beaches and parks where residents can enjoy the great outdoors this autumn and beyond.
