Business and residents to benefit from cheap city centre car parking
Swansea Council's commitment to cheap city centre parking is being maintained for another year.
Visitors to the city centre - whether they're shoppers, city centre workers or tourists - can get to park for just £1 an hour up to a maximum of £5 for the full day with a £2 charge for a full day on Sundays.
The measure was agreed at Full Council recently as part of the council's determination to support businesses and residents alike through the cost of living crisis.
Rob Stewart, Council Leader said: "We are all affected by the cost of living crisis and the council is doing everything it can to support businesses and residents through it.
"That's why we're holding car parking charges at last year's levels - which are already among the cheapest on offer by any city in Wales.
"Residents and businesses alike have told us that lower city centre parking charges encourages footfall and eases the pressure on city centre workers' household budgets. We've listened and acted on the feedback."
Cllr Stewart said the investment in keeping car parking charges lower was worth £1.35m over the last year and £2m this year and is on top of the £400,000 set aside for this year's free ride bus offers that also benefits the city centre.
He said: "There's strong independent evidence that Swansea city centre has been attracting higher footfall and more consumer spending over the last few months compared to other towns and cities in the UK.
"The council's decision to keep car parking charges low in the city centre will continue to help make it an attractive destination for shoppers, workers and tourists in the months ahead."
