Weighbridges are set into the ground and allow you to weigh vehicles and their contents. Weighbridges are often run by private companies who may make them available to members of the public.
Vehicles are restricted to a maximum weight that is usually set by the manufacturer. Police and Trading Standards officers are able to carry out spot checks on vehicles to ensure they are below the maximum weight. Overloading a vehicle is a criminal offence.
If you wish to run a weighbridge as a public weighbridge you will need to be licensed. You will also be assessed to make sure you can operate the weighbridge satisfactorily and complete any necessary documents.
How to apply
Please contact Trading Standards on the details below if you wish to apply for a public weighbridge certificate. They will be able to send you a copy of the application form which you should return with the fee.
