Children and young people's rights

When we create new policies or amend polices, we make sure that we have looked at the impact on children and young people's rights.

The council is committed to making sure that our policies and functions have a positive effect on the children and young people in Swansea. We have embedded the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into the way we set our policies.

We are committed to creating a platform for change to achieve a culture where children's rights are consciously considered in all of our work, resulting in better services and lives for children, young people and families in Swansea.

We have been working with children, young people, families and those who work with children, to make sure our offer is up to date, relevant and meaningful for children and young people. Our Children's Rights Scheme sets out what we intend to do to make children's rights real in Swansea and how we plan to do this with the help of all the people it affects.

The UNCRC has 42 articles which set out how children should be treated.

Everyone is responsible for protecting children from neglect and working in a way that promotes and supports their best interests. By using the UNCRC to guide us we hope to make sure this happens in everything that the council does.
