Hackney carriage and private hire vehicle test appointments
Vehicles licensed as taxis are tested to make sure they are mechanically fit and suitable for use as a taxi. Taxis are tested when they are first licensed and then every 6 months.
We are only able to test vehicles with an appointment.
Renewals and 6 month tests
You will receive a renewal letter with a date and time for your vehicle test. Please try as far as possible to make this appointment. You should receive your renewal letter before the 1st of the month your licence expires. If you have not received your letter please ring Taxi Licensing (01792 635600) to confirm your appointment.
Please remember you must have your vehicle tested by the end of the month your plate expires. Without a test your licence may not be issued and you will not be able to use your vehicle after this time.
You will need to present a valid receipt for renewal of licence to the vehicle examiner at the time of the vehicle test. If you do not produce the receipt your vehicle will not be inspected.
Swansea Council Transport Depot is located at, St Peter's Court, Viking Way, Swansea SA1 7DA. Please report direct to reception on arrival.
Should you need to cancel your test due to non-renewal of licence, or re-arrange a test, you will need to contact taxi licensing via taxilicensing@swansea.gov.uk. You can also call 01792 511911 and leave your name and contact telephone number.
Your renewed vehicle licence plate will be issued at time of passing inspection. Your paper licence will be issued by post following inspection.
