The Lord Mayor
Councillor Paxton Hood-Williams.
Paxton was born and brought up in Upper Killay and moved to Three Crosses on getting married. He was elected as the Conservative Councillor for Fairwood in 2004, and has been a Three Crosses (since the mid 1980's) and Upper Killay (since the early 2000's) Community Councillor, and is passionate about serving the community.
He attended Gowerton Grammar School for five years, before moving to Bishop Gore Grammar school for the sixth form. Paxton then went to Swansea University where he graduated as a metallurgist.
In 1966, Paxton married Patricia, who has keen a interest in both gardening and history. Paxton and Patricia have a daughter Laura, and two granddaughters, Felicite, currently studying biology and marine biology and Gwenllian, currently studying aerospace engineering. Their family home is in Berkshire, where Laura's husband, Stephen, who is a world champion glider pilot, has his aeronautical business.
Following graduation, Paxton was employed at the Swansea Vale works of RTZ for four years, before moving to the then British Steel Corporation Port Talbot works. Here he worked initially in the Research department. Whilst working for RTZ, Paxton completed a Diploma in Management Services, which, at the time, was equivalent to the MBA qualification. As a result, for a number of years, Paxton lectured on a part time (evening) basis for the West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education (now UWTSD) management department.
Whilst employed at the Margam steelworks site, Paxton held a number of positions, before retiring as a Senior Manager in Engineering Services in 2004.
Since retiring, Paxton has maintained his extensive involvement in serving his community. He is Chairman of Three Crosses Community Council, and a member of Upper Killay Community Council, as well as carrying out the obvious role, of his City Council work, representing and working for Fairwood ward and its residents. Paxton is a governor of Crwys and Cila Primary Schools, and is inordinately proud of both schools. Additionally, he is a member of, and/or Chairs, a number of local organisations covering both local ward community matters and the wider management of the Gower AONB and related matters.
Apart from enjoying our superb local natural environment, and that of the wider South Wales area, Paxton is an armchair follower of most sports, and has been a Swansea City fan since the 1950's.
Paxton and Patricia have chosen to support Forget Me Not Club - Killay and Stepping Stones Childrens Centre, Swansea, as the Lord Mayor's Charities for 2024/25.
