Volunteer for a different temporary role

Volunteer quickly and easily for a different temporary role during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Staff are being urged to sign-up to new jobs to help provide and maintain critical and new services in the coming weeks.

Many changes to the way staff work have already taken place over the last few weeks.

Now the council, with the support of trade unions, has issued a call to arms, asking people like you to go the extra mile and be flexible about where and when you work.

To help make this happen a new online service has been set up so you can volunteer quickly and easily for a different temporary role during the Coronavirus pandemic.

What we need you to do:

In order to apply you will first need to register your contact details with our new employee contact information app hereOpens new window.

This will enable us to contact you regarding your application and also keep you up to date with council information relating to Covid19 throughout the crisis.

Next, use the volunteering application formOpens new window to tell us about your preferred roles, skills and qualifications in detail, to help us match you to a suitable job.

By agreeing to change your role, work differently or work different hours, you will be helping us to support local communities, your neighbours and the NHS. You will be helping us to help the NHS save lives.

Our commitment to you

The council's commitment back to you is that despite the massive organisational and financial challenges we're facing, we will:

  • Ensure no-one loses pay because of Covid-19
  • Pay the appropriate rates of pay for work outside of your normal patterns of work
  • Be as flexible as possible on the accumulation of TOIL and leave and to allow this to be converted into additional cash payments, where appropriate
  • Of course we will provide the necessary PPE to staff who are working or volunteer to cover critical care roles
  • And we will continue to listen to employee concerns and give advice.

Examples of available jobs include:

  • Social Services support functions
  • Front line care, for example the elderly and children
  • Admin / telephones / front of house
  • Cleaner
  • Foodbank workers
  • Drivers / distribution
  • LGV drivers
  • Manual labour
