Skip applications
To place a skip on the highway you must apply for a permit. This should be done at least 24 hours before you intend to place it on the highway.
A maximum of 2 skips per permit can be placed at any one time. Please note that in the city centre all skips should be covered and locked and skips on certain parts of the highway will need to include lighting and cones.
Each permit is valid for 28 days and costs £56.00. Should the skip need to remain on the highway for longer than this you will need to apply for a new permit. If the permit is required for less than 28 days the full charge will still be due. You must submit your fee with the application.
You will need to have public liability insurance of at least £5 million. A copy of the current certificate of insurance must be provided with your application. You will be able to upload an electronic version as part of the form.
If you are placing a skip on private land you will not need a skip permit.
