Sewing homestyle: beginner - intermediate

This course covers the skills necessary to tackle a range of projects for the home, as well as handmade decoration and trimmings using a variety of materials and techniques, including up-cycling some of your old tired fabrics for around the home.

This is a workshop where you will work on your own project with guidance from the tutor.

You can learn to use a sewing machine for:

  • Making various easy types of  bags
  • Make cot and bed linen or brighten up existing linen
  • Bunting; cushions; baby cubes, toys, eg animal shaped cushions
  • Table linen eg place mats, oven gloves and pot holders etc
  • Learn basics of patchwork and quilting techniques

Learn new skills eg appliqué; handmade trimmings using hand sewing techniques.

All abilities welcome, no previous experience necessary. Students will get a chance work on projects using the skills needed eg use of cutting equipment, using a sewing machine and overlocker as well as hand sewing if they wish to. Students provide their own basic equipment and materials but sewing machines are provided. Students cannot use their own machines, due to health and safety issues.
