Renew or apply for a resident parking permit

Parking permits are free and aim to allow residents to be able to park near their property.

Applications can take up to 5 working days to be checked and processed. Until you receive your digital permit, you will not be allowed to park in a resident bay. Having a resident permit does not guarantee you a space in a resident parking bay.

What you will need to provide when applying / renewing a licence for the following:

Evidence needed to apply / renew a resident permit

  1. Your driving licence - must show your name, the Swansea address and be in date.
  2. Your V5 log book - must show the vehicle registration number, the Swansea address and be in date.
  3. Your insurance schedule / certificate will be required for your initial application. It is not required for permit renewals.

Evidence needed for a company vehicle

  1. Your driving licence - must show your name, the Swansea address and be in date.
  2. Letter from your employer on company headed paper - stating that you will need the vehicle for work, and the vehicle will be parked at your address overnight (the address of where the vehicle will be kept overnight must be included in the letter) and that the car is taxed, MOT, and insured by the company
    • OR your insurance schedule or insurance certificate and covering letter if the company does not insure the vehicle, and must show your name, the Swansea address, the vehicle registration number and the start and end date of the insurance.
  3. A copy of your Council Tax bill (you will also need to enter the Council Tax number from the bill separately).

Evidence needed for a lease vehicle

  1. Your driving licence - must show your name, the Swansea address and be in date.
  2. The lease company agreement - must show the Swansea address and the vehicle registration number.
  3. Your insurance schedule / certificate will be required for your initial application. It is not required for permit renewals.
  4. A copy of your Council Tax bill (you will also need to enter the Council Tax number from the bill separately).

Evidence needed for a motability vehicle

  1. Your driving licence - must show your name, the Swansea address and be in date.
  2. Your motability agreement - must show the vehicle registration, the Swansea address and the driver of the vehicle (pages 1 and 3).
  3. Your motability insurance schedule - must show the vehicle registration number and the start and end date of the insurance (pages 1 and 3).
  4. A copy of your Council Tax bill (you will also need to enter the Council Tax number from the bill separately).

Evidence needed for students living in Swansea that hold a British driving licence

  1. Your driving licence - must show your name, the Swansea address and be in date.
  2. Your V5 log book - must show the vehicle registration number, the Swansea address and be in date.
  3. Your insurance schedule / certificate will be required for your initial application. It is not required for permit renewals.

Evidence needed for foreign / international driving licence holders

  1. Your driving licence - must show that the licence is in date.
  2. Your V5 log book - must show the vehicle registration number, the Swansea address and be in date.
  3. Your insurance schedule / certificate will be required for your initial application. It is not required for permit renewals.
  4. Your Council Tax bill or utility bill - must show your Swansea address.

If you are unable to provide your driving licence or V5 logbook because you have the wrong address

You can change your address on your vehicle log book (V5C) (opens new window) on the Gov.uk website. 

When you submit your application online you are then sent an email confirming that they have received your application, and we can accept this email as your V5 proof.
