City to fall silent for Remembrance Sunday events

Our city will fall silent for two minutes on November 14 as the nation remembers the sacrifices made by the armed forces in conflict around the world.

Swansea's main Cenotaph on the sea front and many other businesses, homes and memorials will also go quiet for the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Mary Jones, will be at All Saints Church in Southend Gardens, Mumbles, for the 11am commemorations. Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Mike Day, will be representing the people of Swansea at the Swansea Cenotaph for the event.

The Lord Mayor will also be attending the annual Remembrance Service at 2.30pm at St Mary's Church in the city centre.

Cllr Jones said: "Two minutes of quiet contemplation is a symbol of our gratitude to those who went into harm's way protecting our freedom, and those who still do.

"Shared across Swansea and the rest of the UK at the same moment, it is also a poignant reminder of a shared heritage of sacrifice and endeavour."
