Swansea is the second city in the UK to receive City of Sanctuary status and the first Human Rights City in Wales.

It has a history of welcoming people fleeing war and persecution. It is a city which strives to welcome and offer sanctuary to those fleeing violence or persecution, supports and is inclusive of asylum seekers and refugees and celebrates their contribution to city life. Historically, people from a range of different ethnic backgrounds have settled in Swansea and made Swansea their home.

If you have registered to become a sponsor on the UK Government's Homes for Ukraine Scheme, the UK Government will be processing your offer. Swansea Council will be in touch with you once we have received your information from UK Government. Swansea residents have generously opened their doors and hundreds of Ukrainians have arrived in Swansea and lived with sponsors since March 2022.

Wales: Nation of Sanctuary

Wales is aiming to become the world's first 'Nation of Sanctuary'. Wales' Nation of Sanctuary vision is of a Wales in which wherever people seeking sanctuary go, they are met with welcome, understanding and celebration of their unique contribution to the rich tapestry of Welsh life.
