Play in Schools grant 2025 / 2026

As part of the duty on all local authorities to assess play sufficiency within their areas, the value of access to quality child led play opportunities within schools was identified as key to a child's development.

As such, Swansea Council has again identified an opportunity for local schools to access funding, and support the delivery of play opportunities during the school day.

With a maximum of £1,000 available per school, applications need to focus on the purchase of equipment or other resources that support children's play opportunities while at school.

It cannot be used to support curriculum-based activity or training, including sporting activities.

The funding will need to be spent by 31 March 2026.

Please note that, as limited funding is available, not all applications will be successful.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon 1 December 2025.

Play isn't just fun, it's essential.

Through play, children learn to forge connections with others, build a wide range of leadership skills, develop resilience, navigate relationships and social challenges, and conquer their fears. It helps children to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

This play in schools grant aims to aid schools to develop more enriched play opportunities and playtimes.

For example, it could be used for:

• Storage pods for playtime play equipment
• Playtime equipment to improve play experiences and extend imagination
• Playful playground markings
• Loose parts
• Groundworks to support child-led play
• Communication boards

The grant is not to support curriculum-based activity or training.
