Swansea Council's pioneering £7m plan to give every council-owned outdoor play area a makeover has seen work completed at Parc Llewllyn and Tregoff village.

And there's more in the pipeline in the coming months, including Garden Village and a new multi-use games area (MUGA) at Morriston Park.

We're completing work soon on play area upgrades for Long Ridge in Townhill, Kingshead Road and Cwm Level as well as flooring improvements for play areas in Hollett Road, Parc Williams and Waunarlywdd. In the coming months the council is also looking to create a new play area at Parc Gwaunfadog in Morriston.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: "We've completed upgrades on more than 50 community play areas since the campaign was launched and we're going to keep going in the coming months.

"Next on the list is a plan for a makeover for the play area at Garden Village Recreation Ground. There's also plans for a further upgrade at Cwmbwrla play area, including new flooring, a new slide, new swings and a multi-use games area there as well.

"We'll keep people posted on these developments because we know how popular they are from the responses we're getting from families and children alike at our official opening events."

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: "All the experts say how important it is for children to have free access to outdoor play to socialise with friends and family.

"It's part of our commitment to tackling poverty, supporting families through the cost of living crisis and promoting wellbeing in all our communities.

He added, "We're building on this success story by investing more than £2m in a new network of community skate, bike and other sports facilities in Swansea as well as upgrading sports pitches at locations like the Phoenix Centre, Olchfa School and now a new MUGA at Morriston Park.

"It all adds up to an unprecedented level of continuing investment in outdoor play facilities, which are among the priorities the people of Swansea have asked us to get involved in."
