Placemaking and heritage

The Placemaking and Heritage Team provides specialist expert advice on a range of aspects at all scales in all parts of Swansea. The work of the team ensures that placemaking principles form the cornerstone of planning decision making, and that Swansea's unique and rich heritage is preserved and enhanced for future generations.

Placemaking

Placemaking principles are at the heart of the council's strategic planning agenda, its approach to planning policy and development management.

Listed buildings

There are 500+ listed buildings within the boundaries of our City and County ranging from telephone boxes, domestic residences and commercial premises.

Conservation areas

A conservation area is an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.

Historic Parks and Gardens

There is a duty upon the Welsh Ministers to compile and maintain a register of sites of special historic interest in Wales that includes parks, gardens, designed ornamental landscapes, places of recreation and other designed grounds.

Ancient monuments

There are currently 122 ancient monuments within the boundaries of our City and County.
