Order a book

We are now offering a 'phone and pick up' service at several libraries for people who want to borrow books.

You can order and collect books and audiobooks. You can also return items to these libraries.

Please do not try cleaning library books yourself, this is not necessary due to quarantining and safe handling measures in place at the library. These measures will also increase the time from return to discharge from library account.

You can borrow up to 20 items for 3 weeks - although your loans will be automatically renewed until further notice so you do not accrue any overdue charges.

Don't forget that you can still download ebooks and eaudiobooks online.

What you will need when you order

When you call, make sure you have the following information to hand:

  • your library card number and telephone number
  • your book requests/preferences - this could be a selection of your favourite authors/genres or a few specific book titles.

You can search the Swansea Libraries catalogue to browse books.

Library staff will select books for you and provide you with a date and time slot for when you can visit the library. Staff will do their best to meet your requirements, but please be aware that many of the most popular titles may still be on loan.

If you are not already a member of Swansea Libraries, you can join online today, or in person at the library.

Returns

You can return your book/books to any of the libraries listed above during their opening hours. You do not have to make an appointment.

If you have any items out on loan and can't get to any of the open libraries we will be automatically renewing them for you. If you have any concerns about your account then please contact us at libraryline@swansea.gov.uk.

Safety measures

In the interest of customer and staff safety there will be necessary restrictions in place.

Customers will also need to follow safety measures in place at each location, which reflect current government guidance regarding Covid-19 infection control. Please do not visit the library if you or anyone living with you is isolating, or displays Covid-19 symptoms.

We are following Public Health Wales guidance on reducing the risk of cross contamination by placing all books in a 72 hour quarantine.

When visiting the library please adhere to social distancing.

From Monday 14 September it is compulsory to wear face masks/coverings in indoor public places including libraries (exemptions apply). Face masks are not provided at any of our libraries so you will need to bring your own.

You will be asked to use hand sanitiser on entry to the library. You are welcome to use your own if you wish.

To reduce contact, your books will be ready and waiting for you at the library.
