Learn to save a life at Wales National Pool

WALES National Pool Swansea is offering lifesaving and learn-to-swim courses ahead of a busy summer when thousands traditionally flock to our beaches to enjoy the sun and a swim.

The offer comes ahead of the start of Drowning Prevention Week this weekend, a UK wide pre-summer water safety campaign organised by the Royal Life-saving Society (RLSS)

Jeremy Cole, general manager at WNPS, said: "Swimming is a great way to get out and about to enjoy the fresh air, get some exercise and promote wellbeing.

"Although the pool is home to international elite swimmers like Olympics-bound Dan Jervis, we're also a community venue which wants to support people to swim and stay safe at the same time.

"Our courses are available both to support those who want to improve their swimming and lifesaving skills as well as those thinking about learning for the first time.

"We have RLSS Rookies courses or RLSS National Lifesaving Academy programme designed specifically for children and young people."

Mr Cole added: "It's great to know that lifeguarding courses like the ones we offer have helped save lives up and down the country. Although you never want to have to use the skills except in training exercises, the more people who have them, the safer everyone else is.

"Our courses are run by qualified staff and some of the lifesaving courses we offer will also help those looking to apply for jobs in the sector in the future."
