Lacemaking workshop: beginners - intermediate

Learn skills in lacemaking-bobbin, needlelace, and tatting.

This course is a mixed ability class suitable for beginners to intermediate level and will cover techniques such as: bobbin lace - torchon; bucks point; Bedfordshire and Honiton; as well as Needlelace lace and Tatting as required.

  • Students can develop new or existing skills in any of the above lace styles
  • National Lace Guild Assessments qualifications available for those who wish to take them
  • Students provide own equipment, but there will be demonstration pillows available for new students in the first class
  • A list of supplies and suppliers can be obtained from the tutor on the first day of the course, or from Bryn House before classes start if necessary

What you will need

A list of materials will be available from the tutor at the first class or from Bryn House before classes start. Approximate cost of basic equipment initially is approximately £45, and then costs of threads etc (there is limited equipment for students to use to start if needed). Pure cotton threads or linen/silk are used for lacemaking. Perle cotton no. 5 or 8 is used for beginners.
