Wednesday 12 June - The Value of Urban Woodlands

Join a team from the School of the Natural Environment at UWTSD to survey the White Rock woodland along the River Tawe. We will be monitoring animal populations with footprint tunnels, and using high-tech 3D laser scans to measure stored carbon in the trees. The activity will end in Waterfront Campus, where we will view the woodland scan in our Immersive Room. Join us as we use high-powered solar telescopes to gaze (safely) at the wonder of our nearest star - the sun. Examine sunspots, broiling surface, prominences, and filaments, with Dark Sky Wales guiding you along the way.

Guided bat walk

Event led by Evelyn Gruchala - terrestrial ecologist and active bat group member.

The evening will start with a small introduction to bats and a demonstration of how to use bat detectors. We will be using bat detectors to locate and identify any bats in the area. The walk offers an opportunity to learn a bit more about these fantastic and elusive creatures.
