Free bus travel for all
Free bus travel is available for everyone at certain times during school holidays:
First Cymru buses
It is worth looking on the First Cymru bus app to get cheaper tickets, for example instead of paying £6 for a day bus ticket, you can buy 5 for £21 which is £4.20 a day, they will not expire for a year and cover the whole Swansea Bay area: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/south-west-wales/tickets/ticket-prices
National railcards
If you need to take a train journey it is worth checking whether any of the national railcards will cover you and if it the discount on the cost of your fare will save you more than the £30 a year (or £70 for three years) price of the card. They are available for people aged 16 to 30, over 60, disabled or veterans or when families and two people travel together. Typically the fare is reduced by a third: www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/National-Railcards.aspx
Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card
If you are unemployed or actively engaged with your work coach and are receiving JSA or Universal Credit, after a minimum of 3 months into your claim you can ask your work coach for a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card which gives you 50% off the price of selected rail fares: www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/jobcentre-plus-card.aspx
If you need help to afford the cost of travelling to an interview, training or starting a job, you can ask your work coach for discretionary help with these costs from the flexible support fund.
