Winter gritting preparations for premises

It is now the time of year where sections and individual properties should be preparing for the forthcoming winter season and putting their resilience plans into place.

Even though the highways team are still prepared to carry out pre-season deliveries as before, their first priority is to their own preparations; therefore each facility should be considering whether they are able to store extra salt, also bearing in mind that the highways team may be unable to replenish many establishments.

Highways have established criteria for salt stock levels as to when they will cease supplying other departments, which will be strictly adhered to.

Prices for winter 2024-25

Salt - loose, delivered - £70 per tonne
Salt - loose, collected - £60 per tonne
Salt - 26kg bag, delivered - £10 per bag
Salt - in 1 tonne builders bag, delivered - £80 per bag
Grit bin (0.5 tonne capacity) delivered with salt - £260
12 litre Grit Bin delivered with Salt £260

At present the stock of grit bins that highways have is sufficient for their own needs, so please complete the form below as soon as possible.

We advise everyone that they must review their winter arrangements and have procedures in place in adequate time.

The highway and transportation department's primary commitment is to keep the public highway clear and safe; this will take overriding priority in severe conditions.
