The project includes:

  • A multi-use games area and car park available for community use outside of school hours.

Community benefits

The Council is committed to supporting local firms and creating jobs for local people. During the proposed works, the contractor will use local suppliers, where possible, for materials and products. Contractors will be encouraged to employ local workers and offer work experience to unemployed young people.

Pupil engagement

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) engagement will form an integral part of our project. The contractor and Council will work together with the school to support learning opportunities throughout the build project.

Community projects

As part of the project the contractor will be expected to support local initiatives in the area. Further details on this will be provided as the project progresses.

New playground

The new playground was open to the public from the 12 July. Gorseinon Primary school pupils were amongst the first to use the new equipment.

Turf cutting ceremony

A 'turf cutting' ceremony took place on 18 July 2019. This was attended by Swansea Council's Leader, Rebecca Evans AM, local Ward Members, representatives from Andrew Scott Ltd and staff and pupils from Gorseinon Primary school. All were able to celebrate the beginning of the works; pupils had the opportunity to see their new school from the very first day of its construction, and were able to try out the new playground.
