New starring role for Glynn Vivian
One of Swansea's premier arts venues is to have a starring role on national TV on Monday(note: Sept 27).
The Swansea Council-run Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is set to feature in the Sky Arts show Landmark.
Filming for the episode took place with Covid-safe restrictions in April 2021. Those filmed included the city's then Lord Mayor Cllr Mark Child.
Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: "It will be great to see the Glynn Vivian on national TV - it's a wonderful venue that people across Swansea enjoy visiting. I look forward to seeing the show."
Each episode of Landmark spotlights three artists who are competing against each other to create local landmarks for their home region.
Working across mediums varying from ceramics and bronze to LEDs and inflatables, they build, weld and sculpt under the watchful eyes of expert judges.
Artists appearing in the Glynn Vivian heat are Wales: Nathan Wyburn, Candice Bees and John Merrill. Celebrity guest judge is Charlotte Church.
Pop Culture artist Nathan, wire work specialist Candice and wood sculptor John present works addressing themes such as national tragedy, animals in urban environments and sustainability in art.
Their landmarks will be unveiled to the members of the local community who were invited to the filming by the programme makers.
The winning artist qualifies for the series final where they will pitch to create a national landmark.
Landmark continues on Sky Arts, Freeview Channel 11, and streaming service NOW. The Wales heat airs on September 27.
