Lifelong Learning - Garment making workshop for improvers

A class for improvers to develop skills to a higher level.

Workshop style class where you will work on a dressmaking project of choice. Only suitable for students who can already use a sewing machine. Students will develop new and existing skills, advancing their knowledge of garment making to a higher level. Elements of the class will include:

  • Accurate measurement.
  • Understanding pattern instructions and terms.
  • Fabric knowledge.
  • Cutting out garments.

Note that only commercial patterns will be used in this course. Pattern making is not covered as a part of this course.

Suitable for: Intermediate.

Duration: 10 weeks.

Course fee: £69 full fee / £48 concessionary fee.

What you will need

Learners will need to bring a basic sewing kit. A basic sewing kit contains:

  • Tape measure.
  • Steel pins (glass headed).
  • Large scissors - cutting fabric.
  • Small scissors - cutting fabric.
  • Tacking threads.
  • Hand sewing needles - mixture.
  • Paper cutting scissors.
  • Fabric marker/chalk or heat erasable.
  • Set square/ruler.
  • Pencil.
  • Small/medium sewing tool box.
  • Assortment of machine sewing threads (white/grey/ecru and black) to start with.
  • Look out for fabrics/clothes etc for recycling, charity shops, in own home.
