Gambling licences
We are responsible for issuing licences for commercial gambling. Premises include casinos, bingo halls, betting offices and amusement arcades.
We also issue betting permits for gaming machines in pubs and other alcohol licensed premises.
Our gambling policy sets out the principles we will apply when exercising our licensing functions under the Act. The gambling policy is reviewed every three years.
All applications for gambling licenses have to meet the three licensing objectives. These are there to help make sure the licence meets the public interest. The three objectives are:
- preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime.
- ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way.
- protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
