Many are reporting additional demand for their services with the record levels of coronavirus in the city having an impact.

Throughout the pandemic Swansea Council has supported the network of food banks and others to maintain and increase the services they provide.

Additional funding of almost £42,000 has been received from the Welsh Government and organisations can now apply to the council for a share of the money.

The closing date for applications is midday on Wednesday January 26.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Supporting Communities Alyson Pugh said: "Rising household bills and the economic fall-out of the pandemic mean more and more people are struggling day to day.

"Swansea is very lucky to have a network of foodbanks, charities and organisations providing crisis support and the council has done all it can to support them.

"I'm grateful to our colleagues in Welsh Government for providing additional financial support and I'd urge those helping people experiencing food poverty to apply for a share of the money.

"It can be used  to purchase of additional supplies of good quality food and essential goods; expenses such as additional overhead costs, additional volunteer expenses or other additional costs incurred as a result of increased demand and for membership of FareShare Cymru."

Applications will be accepted for costs incurred from February 1 until March 31 2022.
