Frequently asked questions about commercial waste and recycling wheeled bins

Find out more information about our wheeled bins.

How many containers and what size do I need?

You need to make sure that your container is large enough for all the waste your business produces and you're decision is not based on cost. If you have extra waste we will not collect it unless previously agreed before collection.

If your waste varies week by week you need to make sure that your container is large enough to take the most waste you might produce. If you choose to use the council's service, we can provide additional collections at 24 hours' notice on receipt of an email. You will be invoiced the cost of  an additional bin lift for the contracted bin size or for the equivalent amount of bags taken.

You might need a different type of container, for example bags in lieu of a bin if you don't have room for a bin or access is restricted.

My bin has been broken/lost/stolen how do I get a replacement bin?

Contact the commercial waste and recycling team and we will arrange to repair or deliver a replacement bin as soon as possible. Please note we cannot replace the bin multiple times if the bin is stolen. Customers will move to a bag collection service if there are ongoing issues of theft or vandalism.

What happens if my recycling bin has been contaminated with other waste?

If you realise before your collection, please remove those items. If our crew notices the contamination they won't be able to empty the bin. If the contaminants are removed the bin will be emptied on your next collection. Most bins come with lockable lids. If you require a key please let us know.

What should I do if other businesses or individuals have been using my bin?

Please report this on 01792 635600 as fly tipping so that a complaint can be logged and the information can be passed to the enforcement team. To stop this from happening please lock your bin. If you require a lockable bin or a key please let us know. Please do not contact the commercial waste officers regarding issues of fly tipping.

I have excess commercial waste that won't fit in my bin, will it be collected?

Only waste detailed on your contract and waste transfer note will be collected. All waste must be inside your container with the lid shut down flat.  Excess waste that is outside your bin will not be collected, without contacting us first. If you need an extra collection in between your normal collections this can be arranged by contacting us. If we need to collect additional waste regularly then the council reserves the right to review the customer's container requirements.
