Early years activities

Many of the activities we have recommended are suitable for all ages but if you are looking for something just for your pre school age children then try some of these ideas.

Supporting your child during the early years can be tough at the best of times. During the current situation, with lockdown restrictions limiting the amount of time children can go outdoors can make things harder. 

Early years activities from our Early Years Teams

Our Early Years Teams have been busy putting together some useful information to help all parent/carers during this time.  

Our Flying Start Additional Learning Needs team, Flying Start Speech and Language Team, Play Development team, Swansea Family Information Service and Swansea Educational Psychology team have combined to produce this useful support guide to help all parent/carers during this time.

The Early Language Development team have produced this fun guide for activities for 12 month old children.

Our Mobile Childcare Team have put together some fun visual aids of activities for toddlers, 2 year old children and older children as well. They have also developed a handprint template as well.

Here are some tips from Sammy Jack over at Best Start Swansea on healthy nutritious food in the Early Years. You can find more ideas on their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The Swansea Play Service have put together some fantastic short films on ideas to help all children, big and little play at home during the current situation. They are sharing more ideas on their Facebook page.

Remember to visit the Family Information Service website for up to date information about supporting key workers with government funded childcare during the current situation. 

More activities for early years

There are lots of fun things to do to keep you moving on You Tube. The fantastic people at Busy Feet have developed a live broadcast every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11.30am to keep your little ones active in the house.

You can Dance with Huw and practice some of your Welsh as well. There are lots more videos on the Cyw Youtube channel all designed for children ages 0 to 6 years and delivered in Welsh.

The TTS website also has ideas for activities you can download. With two dedicated early years activity books to download it's a great resource for ideas. You can also subscribe to their newsletter for more activity ideas.  

Nursery World have also put together ideas for home activities you can do with early years children. From attributives to do in the home, ways to explore your neighbourhood and books to share the activities here will help your early years learn through play.
