Town Centre District Housing Office - have your say

We want you to have your say on our proposal to reduce the opening hours of Town Centre District Housing Office to tenants and residents during week days (Monday to Friday).

What changes are we proposing?

We are consulting on the proposal to reduce the number of hours that Town Centre District Housing Office is open daily to the public. It is still the intention that the office will open every day Monday to Friday, this will however be for a reduced amount of time.

We are proposing that this change will start when it is safe to re-open to the public. This will mean tenant and resident access to the Town Centre District Housing Office eg to pay rent, make an enquiry or hand in documents will be affected.

It will not however reduce the overall housing service provided to tenants, and you will still be able to telephone and email the office when it is closed. You will still be able to have access to your Neighbourhood Officer and carry out routine business with us, this will also include pre-arranged appointments at the Town Centre District Housing Office or in your home at a time suitable to you.

The proposed opening times are:
Monday: 9.00am - 1.00pm
Tuesday: 1.00pm - 4.00pm
Wednesday: 9.00am - 1.00pm
Thursday: 1.00pm - 4.00pm
Friday: 9.00am - 1.00pm

Why are we proposing to make changes?

Before the Covid-19 pandemic the Housing Service undertook a review to look at how it can modernise the way it delivers the service. We also need to make sure the service has the right level of resources in place to address the increasing priorities and demands it is facing in relation to supporting tenants, the impact of Universal Credit, preventing homelessness, meeting housing need, improving council houses and investing in building new homes to name but a few examples.

The reason we are proposing these changes is that the way tenants are contacting us is changing. Far more people are contacting the service by telephone and online and fewer people are visiting offices.

The proposals to reduce the opening hours at Town Centre District Housing Office will not change the services that are available to tenants from the office and Neighbourhood Officers will continue to make home and estate visits.

Our priority is to continue to deliver a frontline face to face housing service that tenants value and to improve the way we do this. We are introducing new technology for officers and the public which will help modernise the way we deliver our services to you and will help make them easier for you to use.
