Plasmarl youngsters celebrate their transformed play area
YOUNGSTERS in a Swansea community are celebrating the official opening of their much-loved re-vamped local play area.
The play area at Cwm Level Park in Plasmarl has been transformed from a tired open space into a haven for local families looking for a safe place for their children to play and catch up with friends.
The play area is one of more than 50 in neighbourhoods across the city to have benefited from Swansea Council's £7m play upgrade programme and was officially opened by Council Leader Rob Stewart.
The play area boasts swings, a roundabout and a multiplay unit as well as a trampoline and other play equipment for young ones to enjoy. There's also new picnic benches and seating areas where they or their parent and carers can take a break or have a chat.
Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: "It's great news that children living in Plasmarl and the surrounding area have their own happy space to enjoy free family time together. The feedback we've had has been very positive."
Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said that the upgrade programme which aims to see every council-owned play area improved is the biggest of its kind in Wales.
He said: "We want to support as many play opportunities as possible in local communities so no child is too far from a play area they love. It's part of our continuing commitment to doing all we can to support residents and children with cost-free outdoor activities during the cost of living crisis that also promote wellbeing."
Since the start of the play areas programme communities across Swansea have seen investment in areas including Mayhill, West Cross, Garnswllt, Bonymaen, Mawr, Grovesend, Penclawdd and Birchgrove.
