Building notices
Building notices allow work to be carried out without needing to submit full plans. They are suitable for small work and allow you to begin work quickly.
It can be used for most domestic building works where there are no sewers.
It cannot be used for shops or offices, or erecting a new building on a private street. It also cannot be used for works close to or on top of a sewer.
How to apply
You should contact Swansea Building Control on 01792 635636 or email bcon@swansea.gov.uk to get a competitive quote. You can find out how to make a payment on our Fees page.
You should submit the building notice application form along with the full fee at least two days before your planned start date. The building notice is valid for three years from this date unless work has been started.
If you are proposing a new building or an extension please also include a site plan.
You can apply by:
- sending your completed application to bcon@swansea.gov.uk. Payment can then be made over the phone by contacting 01792 635636.
- contacting us on 01792 635636 where a form can be filled in on your behalf and payment can be taken over the phone.
- posting the completed application to Swansea Building Control or bring it to the Contact Centre in the Civic Centre. Payment can either be taken over the phone or by cheque.
What happens next
Once we have received your form and the full payment we may ask you for extra details such as structural design calculations or plans.
When you start work you need to contact us to tell us the work has begun by phoning 01792 635636. One of our officers will inspect the work as the build progresses. They will tell you if the work does not meet building regulations.

Planning permission
Remember you may also need planning permission for the work. If so you will need to apply and be given permission before you start work. Application forms and information are available on our Planning pages.
