Ben Cromie - Emergency management officer

Ben plans for and respond to emergency incidents, working with key partners such as the police and fire service.

Emergency management officer

Here's what he says about his role.

How the role most benefits the public

Our team can respond to emergencies 24/7. It's our role to coordinate the council response to major emergencies. We're able to help the public in many ways, for example, by providing emergency shelter, accommodation and practical support such as food, personal supplies and crisis support.

What gives you most pleasure in this role?

Being able to work with our partners to respond to major emergencies and assist people at their time of need is incredibly rewarding. A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to plan for certain scenarios and it's very pleasing to see those plans come to fruition when they need to.

Started working for the council

I started with Swansea Council in September 2009. I had joined Local Government in May 2005.
