Information about burial and cremation service changes due to coronavirus

The Bereavement Services Admin office at civic centre remains closed to the public. If you have any enquiries for cemeteries and crematorium please email bereavementservices@swansea.gov.uk or telephone 01792 636481.

Our cemeteries and crematorium are open for funerals and for visiting graves / remembrance.

Cremation services: funeral attendance at Swansea crematorium is limited to 60 people; Singing, chanting and the use of wind instruments is currently not permitted due to the possible additional risk of infection; face coverings must be worn inside the chapel; Attendance outside the crematorium is unlimited and the external speakers can be used to relay the service outside; however social distancing measures are still in place and must be observed at all times to help with containing the spread of the virus.

The hall of remembrance is open but can only accommodate one family at a time; face masks are also required.

Burial services: Our cemeteries are open for burials and for visiting graves; attendance for burials is unlimited but there is an essential need to maintain a safe distance at all times.

In line with Welsh Government regulations you should only attend a funeral if you are the person responsible for arranging the funeral or have been invited by the person arranging the funeral or are the carer of a person attending a funeral. Mourners will need to keep two metres apart unless they live in the same household.

People should not attend a service if they are unwell or if they are self-isolating or are vulnerable to the coronavirus.

When visiting the grounds please adhere to recommended social distancing at all times for the safety of staff and the public.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Bereavement advice during the coronavirus pandemic

Bereavement is hard at the best of times but has been made even harder during this period of lockdown and isolation. At a Loss are a charity that provide a website directory of bereavement support across the UK. They have added specialist advice to support you if you or someone you know is bereaved during the pandemic. Advice includes how to find support, arranging a funeral and what you can do if you can't attend the funeral of a friend or loved one. Their website also offers live online chat with a bereavement counsellor as well as links to other organisations who offer bereavement advice.
