Tenant and Leaseholder Participation

Participation is about giving tenants and leaseholders the opportunity to influence the way their homes are managed.

All tenants, leaseholders and members of their households are able to participate and have their say about the Housing Service.  We are very keen to get everyone's views.

There are many benefits in tenant participation for individual tenants such as improved skills and knowledge, an increased sense of community and personal development.  The Authority also benefits as it helps us tailor a service which meets the needs of tenants, promotes a good landlord and tenant relationship and ensures staff provide a high quality service.

You can participate in a variety of ways and at a level which suits you.

Tenant Participation Strategy

Swansea Council has recently published its 4th PDF Document Tenant Participation Strategy (PDF, 768KB)Opens new window and PDF Document Action Plan (PDF, 288KB)Opens new window. The strategy sets out the framework for tenant participation over the next 3 years. The strategy includes the current methods of tenant participation and seeks to explore new ways to encourage more involvement. The publication of a Tenant Participation Strategy is not a statutory requirement but it is recognised as best practice as a way to develop and improve engagement with Tenants and Leaseholders.

The strategy also supports the Welsh Government's commitment to tenant participation across Wales together with a number of the Council's key priorities including transforming services, safeguarding people from harm and tackling poverty.

The strategy has been jointly developed with tenant groups and using feedback from face to face surveys and questionnaires. The Tenant Steering Group has been involved in jointly developing these strategies since the first one was produced in 2007 and has continued to monitor progress.
